Brandon Jones: SL Hitter of the Week

The Mississippi Braves announce that M-Braves left fielder Brandon Jones has been named the Southern League Hitter of the Week for the week ending April 15.

Jones hit .415 with three doubles, two triples, a homerun, eight RBI, three stolen bases, and six stolen bases on the week. He is tied for second in the SL with 8 RBI. Of the 41 runs the Braves have scored, Jones has been responsible for 13 of them. He ranks first in the league with 17 hits, third in the league with an average of .415, tied for fourth with six extra-base hits, and tied for first with two triples. He also ranks fifth in the SL with a slugging percentage of .659.

Jones was the M-Braves hero on 4/11 vs. CAR. Jarrod Saltalamacchia hit a solo homer to put the M-Braves on the board, but Jones came through in the bottom of the ninth to get the Braves the win. With no one out and a runner on first, Jones drilled his first homer of the year over everything in right-center field to give MIS a 3-2 win. It was his first homer of the year, his and the team’s first walk-off homer of the year, and his second walk-off homer as an M-Brave. The last person to hit a walk-off homer was Michael Rosamond who did it on 8/26/06 vs. MOB. Jones’ last walk-off homer was in the second game of a doubleheader on 7/20/06 vs. TNS.

Jones was listed as the fourth-best prospect in the organization by Baseball America after hitting .273 with seven homers and 25 RBI through 48 games in Mississippi last year.
