Braves Win Pitchers Duel & Series: W, 2-0

Jarrod Saltalamacchia rapped a one-out RBI double in the bottom of the seventh off Jack Egbert to break a scoreless tie and send the Braves to their third straight win in front of a Monday night crowd of 2,482 at Trustmark Park. The Braves (13-5) increased their lead to two games in the South Division over the Barons (11-7). They also secured their fourth straight series win to start the season.

Righty Jack Egbert (0-1, 1.80 ERA) was the story for the Barons as he handcuffed the Braves retiring 17 in a row before Brandon Jones reached on a one-out walk in the 7th. Saltalamacchia wasted no time ripping the first pitch he saw down the right field line as Jones scored all the way from first base on a great slide under the tag of Donny Lucy. Mark Jurich followed two batters later with an RBI double of his own scoring Salty and extending the Braves lead to 2-0.

Charlie Morton tossed 2 1/3 innings of scoreless relief...Joe Winkelsas added to his scoreless string to start the season with a scoreless 8th inning...Joey Devine tossed the ninth for his third save of the season while facing the minimum thanks to a game-ending 4-6-3 double play. It was the Braves league-tying third shutout of the season. They lowered their team ERA back down to 2.35.

The Braves finished 1-for-5 with runners in scoring position while the Barons were 0-for-3 in the same category.

The Braves will continue a five game set in Pearl, Mississippi at Trustmark Park as they take on the Birmingham Barons, the AA Affiliate of the Chicago White Sox, in Game Four of their Southern League Series. The Braves On Deck Circle presented by Wendy's will start things off at 6:05pm, while the First Pitch will follow at 7:05pm (CT). The Braves are scheduled to send LHP Dan Smith (2-1, 1.80 ERA) to the hill in search of his team-leading third win, while the Barons will counter with LHP Wes Whisler (0-1, 2.65 ERA) who is seeking his first victory. Make sure you take your radio to the game and tune to the exclusive Trustmark Park frequency - 104.3-FM.
