Braves Lose Third Straight One-Run Game: L, 3-2

For the second night in a row the Braves had the tying run in scoring position in the 9th inning only to fall to the BayBears, 3-2, in front of 2,852 fans at Hank Aaron Stadium. The loss ran the Braves (12-25) season high losing streak to eight games as they fell to 54-53 overall. The BayBears (17-20) picked up their fourth straight win, while improving to 54-53 overall on the season. The BayBears are still 9 games back of First Place Jacksonville in the South Division with 33 games remaining.

The long ball did in James Parr (3-4, 4.64 ERA) Sunday night as he gave up a leadoff homerun to Chris Rahl in the 3rd inning. It was Rahl's seventh homerun of the season and his fifth against the Braves this season. Justin Upton added his second homer of the series in the fourth inning which proved to be the difference in the game. It was Upton's 13th of the season.

The Braves managed another comeback in the seventh inning as Josh Burrus led off the inning with a single and moved to second on a passed ball. Van Pope followed with a walk. Matt Young then drove in Burrus with a double and Clint Sammons followed with an RBI single to score Van Pope.

The BayBears then went to the bullpen and Mark Rosen got Mobile out of the jam by inducing two ground balls to pinch-hitter Mark Jurich and J.C. Holt, who grounded into an inning ending double play. Daniel Stange tossed the final 1 and 2/3 innings to pick up his first save of the season as he stranded the tying and go-ahead runs on base in the ninth.

The Braves finished 2-for-8 with runners in scoring position in the game (4-for-17 in the series) while the BayBears finished 0-for-3 (4-for-15 in the series) in that same category. The Braves left 7 men on base (13 in the series). The BayBears left 4 stranded on base (10 in the series).

The Braves players of the game were Clint Sammons and Matt Young as they both finished 2-for-4 at the plate with 1 RBIs. Sammons had a pair of singles while Young had a double and a single.

The Braves will continue a five game set in Mobile, Alabama at Hank Aaron Stadium as they take on the Mobile BayBears, the AA Affiliate of the Arizona Diamondbacks, in the third game of their Southern League 5-Game Series. The Braves On Deck Circle presented by Wendy's will air starting at 6:05pm (CT). The First Pitch will follow at 7:05pm (CT).
