Barons Blank Braves & Win Series: W, 8-0
The Braves were blanked for just the second time this year as the Barons launched back-to-back homeruns in the eighth to pour a little salt on the shutout. For the Braves the game was all about wasted chances as they grabbed three walks to lead off the third but struck out and bounced into an inning-ending double play to end the threat. In the fourth the Braves got back-to-back singles to start the frame but hit into another double play to squelch the threat.
The stars of the game were definitely Birmingham's Thomas Collaro and Cory Aldridge as they both picked up two hits and drove in three runs. Starter, Tyler Lumsden (6-1, 2.28 ERA) struggled with location but battled around it and used his infield to bail him out of two innings.
Braves starter, Chris Waters (2-3, 3.86 ERA) struggled as well and was pelted for 7 hits and 4 runs.
The Braves continue their five game homestand Friday night against the Birmingham Barons at Trustmark Park. The Braves send RHP Paul Bush (2-3, 4.01 ERA) to the hill, while Birmingham counters with LHP Corwin Malone (4-3, 3.33 ERA) at 7:05. The Braves On Deck Circle powered by Nextel starts off the broadcast at 6:05pm on SuperSport 930. Don't forget to bring your radios Tuesday and tune into AM-930 or 104.3FM exclusively at Trustmark Park.
