Barons Win Mother's Day Matchup

Less than fourteen hours after the Barons went deep into their bullpen, Tyler Lumsden (4-1, 2.91 ERA) threw eight innings of shutout baseball allowing just four hits in a 5-2 victory over the Braves in front of 2,507 at Hoover Metropolitan Stadium.

The Braves were seeking their first three-game winning streak of the season as Chris Waters (2-2, 3.56 ERA) also pitched well until the eighth when he gave up a three-run homer to Micah Schnuerstein that virtually put the game away. The Braves avoided the shutout in the ninth by scoring a pair of runs on a sacrifice fly by Barbaro Canizares and a RBI groundout by Matt Esquivel.

The Barons wore pink caps to commemorate Mother's Day and proceeds from a silent auction on the caps went to Breast Cancer Awareness of Alabama.

The Braves and Barons continue their five-game set Monday night at the Hoover Met as the Braves send RHP Ryan Basner (0-3, 7.92 ERA) to the hill, while Birmingham counters with LHP Corwin Malone (3-2, 3.43 ERA) at the Hoover Met at 7:05. The Braves On Deck Circle powered by Nextel starts off the broadcast at 6:05pm on SuperSport 930 (WSFZ-AM-930)
