No BP...No Problem for Diamond Jaxx

Massive thunderstorms rolled through the Central Mississippi area around 4:30pm and delayed the start of the game til 7:30pm (CT). Neither team was able to take on-field batting practice but it didn't seem to matter for West Tennessee as they pounded out a team-high 15 runs and 25 hits in their blowout win over the Braves, 15-1. The Braves avoided the shutout when Serrano led off the eighth with a single and later scored on a wild pitch.

The game was over before it started as the D-Jaxx got five runs in the first off of Ryan Basner (0-3, 7.92 ERA) who settled in after that, but the damage had been done. Glenn Tucker checked in and was lit up in the fourth and fifth for 8 runs on 11 hits.

West Tenn starter Juan Mateo (2-2, 2.35 ERA) was untouchable as he faced the minimum through seven innings while allowing two singles and striking out nine. Both singles were eliminated on double plays. West Tenn also proved why they were the number one team in hitting and pitching tonight, in front of 2,749 at Trustmark Park, as they lowered their team ERA to 2.84 and raised their team batting average 10 points to .269.

The Braves and Diamond Jaxx face off again tomorrow night in the finale of this five-game series at 7:05 pm at Trustmark Park. RHP Matt Wright (1-1, 2.70 ERA) takes the hill for the Braves while West Tennessee counters with RHP Randy Wells (1-1, 1.56 ERA) The Braves On Deck Circle powered by Nextel starts off the broadcast at 6:05pm on SuperSport 930 (WSFZ-AM-930).
