Barons Walk-Off with Game 3: W, 3-2

James Parr and Gio Gonzalez were the story in this one. Both starters gave up one run through seven innings of work. Though they were outstanding, neither starter factored into the decision.

For the first time this series, Birmingham took the lead in the third inning. Jeremy Frost singled and scored on a sac fly by Robert Valido to give the Barons a 1-0 lead.

The M-Braves finally got on the board in the top of the eighth as J.C. Holt came through in the clutch. Mark Jurich started the inning by drawing a walk and he moved to second on a single by Clint Sammons. With two outs in the inning, Holt fought off a great pitch by Oneli Perez that found its way down the left field line for a double. Holt’s big hit brought Jurich to the plate tying the score at one.

Mississippi took the lead in the ninth after Matt Esquivel doubled to get things started. With two outs, Mark Jurich singled to right bringing Esquivel to the plate with the go-ahead run.

With Donny Lucy standing on second, Victor Mercedes blasted a two-run, walk-off homer that gave the Barons a 3-2 win.

James Parr gave up one run on four hits through seven innings and left the game with the score tied at one. Jose Ascanio threw one scoreless inning and Joey Devine came on in the ninth and gave up a two-run walk-off homer as he fell to 2-3 on the year.

Gio Gonzalez gave up one run on two hits in seven innings of work. Oneli Perez gave up one run in two innings of work, but still improved to 2-2 on the year.

The Braves and Barons play game four of this five-game series tomorrow at 2:05 pm. Mississippi is scheduled to send righty Moises Hernandez (0-0, 0.00) to the hill in search of his first AA win of the year while Birmingham is scheduled to send righty Jack Egbert (5-4, 3.05) to the hill in search of his sixth win.
