Suns Win Pitcher's Duel Again: L, 1-0

The Suns continued their winning ways, with their franchise-record fourteenth straight win, a 1-0 pitcher's duel over the Mississippi Braves in front of a crowd of 3,245 at Trustmark Park. The Suns got their best effort on the season from Danny Muegge (6-4, 4.17 ERA) as he struck out three and walked only one while keeping the Braves off the scoreboard. He retired 11 of the first 15 batters he faced. The Suns bullpen shut down the Braves not allowing a runner past first base in the last two innings.

Braves starter, Dave Coggin (0-3, 4.50 ERA) was victimized by the lack of offense by the Braves. The Braves bullpen, meanwhile, managed to retire 12 of the 13 batters faced while striking out 8 and allowing just a hit batsman in the sixth. The Braves dropped their team ERA to the lowest point since May 8th (4.15)

Mark Alexander pitched another perfect ninth to notch his team-high 16th save of the season. The Suns lowered their ERA to 2.91 as a team which is still good for 2nd in the Southern League.

The Braves continue their final 10-game homestand of the season which will close out the first half as the Braves welcome the defending Southern League Champion Jacksonville Suns in the third game of a five-game set Thursday night at 7:05 CT. The Suns have won a franchise best 14 in a row and 22 of their last 23. They can tie a SL record with two more wins. The Braves will send LHP Chris Waters (3-4, 4.21 ERA) to the hill, while Jacksonville counters with RHP Heat Totten (5-2, 3.86 ERA). The Braves On Deck Circle powered by Nextel starts off the broadcast at 6:05pm (CT) on SuperSport 930. Don't forget to bring your radios and tune into AM-930 or 104.3 FM exclusively at Trustmark Park.
