BayBears Clinch Series with Shutout: L, 1-0

The Braves second-half struggles continued Tuesday night as Chris Waters was victimized by a two-out walk and two-out error in the 7th inning which led to the only run of the game. Pitcher Sean Thompson singled home Drew Macias to plate the only run of the game (an unearned run) as the BayBears beat the Braves 1-0 in front of an announced crowd of 2,949 at Trustmark Park.

The Braves managed to get the tying run to 3rd base in each of the last 3 innings but all three times the Braves were denied. Arteaga was thrown out at the plate trying to score on a wild pitch in the 7th...Yunel Escobar struck out to end the 8th with runners at 1st and 3rd...and Ray Serrano was taken down on a questionable called third strike with runners at the corners to end the game.

Chris Waters (7-13, 5.01 ERA) was the hard-luck loser as he delivered his best outing since July 6th, the Braves bats were just unable to pick him up as they finished 1-for-6 with runners in scoring position and stranded 6 base runners. Waters did manage to avoid gving up a Homerun but was tagged with his Southern League leading 13th loss of the season. On a bright note, Joey Devine tossed two perfect innings of relief again while tossing his 10th straight strikeout (5 at TEN-[8.19], 5 vs MOB-[8.22]).

The Braves will continue a five game set in Pearl, Mississippi at Trustmark Park as they take on the Mobile BayBears, the AA Affiliate of the San Diego Padres, in game four of the series. First Pitch is set for 7:05 PM (CT). The Braves are scheduled to send LHP Matt Harrison (3-2, 3.34 ERA) to the hill, while the BayBears are scheduled to counter with RHP Jose Oyervidez (5-11, 3.86 ERA). The Braves On Deck Circle powered by Nextel will start things off at 6:05pm (CT). Don't forget if you're headed to the game then take your radio and tune to 104.3-FM exclusively at Trustmark Park.
