Barons Blow Out Braves: L, 11-2

The MS Braves were shelled early and often before a Tuesday night crowd of 3,959 at Trustmark Park as the Barons evened up the 5-game series at two games a piece, setting up a rubber match on Wednesday night. The Braves only offensive output came from Barbaro Canizares as he drove in the first run in the fourth with an RBI single and the last run in the ninth with a solo homerun. It marked his first multi-RBI game in 10 games. It was also his first homer since May 19th in Jacksonville.

Anthony Lerew (0-1, 6.75 ERA) struggled through his four innings allowing nine hits and five runs on 2 walks and 4 strikeouts. Eric Schmitt pitched two good innings but in his third inning of relief he allowed three runs to score. Ryan Basner also had a good first inning but allowed three unearned runs to score in the ninth.

Cory Aldridge had a banner night going 5 - 5 with five singles. His previous high on the season was a two-hit game. Pedro Lopez was held hitless on Monday night and exploded on Tuesday night with a 3 for 6 showing with 3 RBIs. The real story for Birmingham was Tyler Lumsden (8-2, 2.83 ERA) as he scattered four hits and one run over seven innings while throwing only 72 pitches. He was lifted in the eighth so the bullpen could get some work. The Barons set a new season high in runs (11) and hits (19).
