Barons Steal One From Braves: L, 4-2

The MS Braves continued their futility on Wednesday night as they fell 4-2 to the Birmingham Barons in front of a crowd of 3,973 at Trustmark Park. The Barons won the season series 8-7 and finished at 6-4 at Trustmark Park. The Braves only offensive output came from Yunel Escobar as he went 2 for 4 with a pair of doubles and an RBI. His first two-bagger was the 150th hit of his career.

Matt Wright (7-3, 2.27 ERA) suffered his first loss since May 11th but remained the #1 man in the ERA department in the Southern League. Jose Ascanio tossed 2 and 1/3 innings of one-hit relief.

Corwin Malone (8-5, 3.60 ERA) picked up the win scattering four hits, two runs and three walks (two of which scored) through six innings. Ehren Wasserman pitched the ninth for his 15th save of the season. The Barons no-hit the Braves the last 4 and 2/3 innings.

The Barons rally started with a lead-off walk which was followed by a single, ground rule RBI double and RBI single. Then with two outs and two on, Thomas Collaro delievered with a broken-bat two-run single on a 1-2 count to give the Barons the lead for good.
