Braves Even Series with Biscuits: W, 2-1

Matt Harrison tossed six shutout innings and the Braves held on for a nail-biting 2-1 win to even up their 5-game series in front of an announced crowd of 2,489 at Riverwalk Stadium. Zach Schreiber induced 2 strikeouts and a game-ending groundout to first to pick up his 17th save of the season. Harrison (3-2, 3,42 ERA) continued his unbeaten streak which dates back to July 6th against Mobile. He has gone at least 5 innings in all nine of his appearances.

Ryan Christianson made it interesting in the eighth launching a solo homerun to deep center to cut the lead in half. Then in the 9th inning, Ruggiano reached on an error by Arteaga, advanced to 2nd base with a steal and to 3rd on a throwing error by Saltalamacchia. Schreiber then struck out Longoria and got the game-ending ground out from Brignac to close the door.

Luis Hernandez started the scoring with a two-out RBI single in the 3rd while Josh Burrus picked up a bases-loaded sacrifice fly in the 4th to push the lead to 2-0 before Christianson’s homer in the 8th inning.

In the South Division Standings, the Braves are still a game and a half back of 4th place Birmingham and 7 games behind 1st place Jacksonville.
