One Bad Inning Does in Braves: L, 2-1

Former MSU Bulldog Matthew Maniscalco ended an 0-10 slump with a second inning RBI single that proved to be the difference Sunday night as the Biscuits continued their mastery over the Braves with a 2-1 win in front of an announced crowd of 2,890 at Riverwalk Stadium. The Braves losing streak is now at a franchise record six straight overall including a seven-game skid on the road.

Braves starter, Anthony Lerew (0-2, 3.86 ERA) had his best outing except for the second inning in which he allowed 2 runs and 4 hits to Montgomery. The Braves bullpen was solid again as Ryan Basner tossed 2 innings of 1-hit relief.

The real star of the game was once again the Biscuits starter. Jim Magrane (10-6, 3.09 ERA) became the first pitcher to 10 wins in the Southern League retiring 14 in a row at one point. He finished two outs shy of his first complete game of the season.

The Braves got their only run in the fourth after back-t-back singles by Hernandez and Escobar to start the inning, Canizares hit a sacrifice fly with one out to score Hernandez. The Braves chased Magrane in the ninth with a pair of one-out singles including Canizares nearly hitting one out to left. Bobby Darula then grounded into a fielder's choice as Jones was thrown out at the plate. Rosamond drew a walk to load the bases but Mike Rozema bounced into a game ending fielder's choice as Martinez stepped on the bag at third to force out Darula.

The Braves wrap up a five game road trip at Riverwalk Stadium in Montgomery, Alabama Sunday night as they take on the Montgomery Biscuits, the AA Affiliate of the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. First Pitch is set for 7:05 PM (CT). The Braves are set to send RHP Matt Wright (7-3, 2.27 ERA) to the hill while the Biscuits are scheduled to counter with RHP Tony Peguero (8-7, 3.12 ERA). The Braves On Deck Circle powered by Nextel starts off the broadcast at 6:05 PM (CT) on SuperSport 930. Don't forget if you're headed to the game then take your radio and tune to 103.9-FM exclusively at Riverwalk Stadium.
