Braves Spoil Biscuits Party: W, 4-2

The Braves played the roil of spoiler Thursday night topping the Biscuits 4-2 in front of an announced crowd of 3,328 at Trustmark Park. The Biscuits are trying to clinch a playoff spot by winning the second half South Division. They hold a 2 1/2 game lead over the Suns and a 3 game lead over the BayBears with 4 games to play.

The Braves fell behind early as Sean White (5-6, 4.40 ERA) allowed two runs on three hits to the first four batters before settling down and scattering five hits through the remaining six innings he pitched. Arthur Santos pitched a perfect eighth in relief while Zach Schreiber gave up a leadoff walk and single before notching his 20th save in 22 chances.

The Braves capitalized on Biscuit errors while Ray Serrano helped lead the offensive charge picking up 3 hits in 4 at bats and reaching all four times he came to the plate. Serrano also sscored the go-ahead run and drove in the insurance run in the eighth with his third double of the night. Tony Peguero (10-12, 2.97 ERA) was victimized by three unearned runs in his 7 innings of work.

The Braves will continue a five game set in Pearl, Mississippi at Trustmark Park as they take on the Montgomery Biscuits, the AA Affiliate of the Tampa Bay Devil Rays, in the game two of the series. First Pitch is set for 7:05 PM (CT) live from Trustmark Park. The Braves are scheduled to send RHP Daniel Curtis(2-5, 4.56 ERA) to the hill, while the Biscuits are scheduled to counter with RHP Jeff Niemann (5-5, 2.88 ERA). The game will air tape-delayed after JA Football at approximately 10pm (CT).
