Stars Freeze Braves in Extras: L, 4-3 (10)

The Braves fell short in their role of spoiler Thursday night as the Stars outlasted them 4-3 in 10 Innings in front of an announced crowd of 2,128 at chilly Joe Davis Stadium. The Braves took an early 2-0 lead in the 3rd inning on three straight base hits by Holt, Lillibridge and Jones.

The Braves bullpen spoiled a great outing by Matt Harrison (0-0, 1.80 ERA) as he retired nine out of the first ten batters that he faced. After getting to within one run in the 4th inning, the Stars rallied for two more runs off of Jose Ascanio and former Star Joe Winklesas in the 7th inning. The Braves responded, however, with a game-tying two-out RBI single by Brandon Jones in the 8th inning to force extra innings. The Stars scored the winning run in the 10th off of an Adam Heether RBI single. Joey Devine (0-1, 6.75 ERA) suffered the loss in his second inning of relief.

The Braves will continue a five game set in Huntsville, Alabama at Joe Davis Stadium as they take on the Huntsville Stars, the AA Affiliate of the Milwaukee Brewers, in game two of the series. The Braves On Deck Circle presented by Wendy's will start things off at 6:05pm with the First Pitch following at 7:05 PM (CT). The Braves are scheduled to send LHP Jo-Jo Reyes (0-0, 0.00 ERA) to the hill, while the Stars will counter with LHP Steve Hammond (0-0, 0.00 ERA).
